title: Cubs place Cashner and Wells on DL.

summary:

Cashner has been placed on the disabled list, along with Randy Wells, after his first major league start and could miss a month or more of the season. The Cubs say there are "no surgery possibilities" with either one. Wood and Prior, both highly touted top picks, suffered elbow and shoulder problems and surgeries that limited their careers. Cashner allowed only one run in his starting debut Tuesday before leaving after 5 1/3 innings against the Diamondbacks. Cashner and Wells will not pick up a ball for a week to 10 days, then will be re-evaluated. They will need simulated games or minor league rehab starts before they return. The Cubs know they won't get any sympathy around the league.

"We'll find a way to get through it," general manager Jim Hendry said. "Nobody's going to feel sorry for you."

my opinion:
I think this could happened to any player. It is too sad because their careers are at stake, but at least they can rehab and come back to play again.
